Why do some buyers think they're doing you a favour by buying your stuff???

Got an item listed on buy it now for £15, quantity 3, stupid offers auto-rejected.
Just received a message from a potential buyer saying "i could offer you £30 for the 3". Why would we accept that? We're not running a 3 for 2 promotion, and they're priced for profit, not a quick sale.
Also, he'd already used his 3 offers: £8.50, £9.00 and £10.00. Not entirely sure why he thought if he sent a message we'd take £10 each when we'd already rejected his actual offer...
Predictably, they're a private business, so if we actually had sold them to him for £10, odds are they'd be back on ebay by next weekend, probably for £15 each.

Dont ask you dont get. The buyer doesnt know how much you paid for them
or are willing to accept, Sometimes being cheeky is worthwhile.
I bought some stuff recently £4 each i wanted 5 & put in an offer of £15 they counter offered £17.50
i accepted. If they had put £19.99 i would have accepted. lol.
Always worth asking.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
hubby wanted a snooker cue - price £25 BIN brand new in an ebay shop. asked if they'd take £20 and they did - result in my book.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0

I have something listed at a starting price of about 1/10th of the price in the shops. I have 30 watchers, and two bidders, the first one placed the starting bid, and the next one took him out at £2 more :rotfl: Won't be laughing if that's what it sells for :eek:You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

i had someone message me, offering me £15 for a dress (£20, new with tags, listed at £10) and a pair of carvela shoes that rrp at £100 (worn once), as if i had no idea what they were worth. and when i politely declined, she said that the dress's starting price was too steep and would maybe reconsider it if i relisted it at a lower price when no-one bought it... charming. especially as the dress ended up selling for about £15 which i was quite happy with

I had an item on a while ago at £430 BIN or best offer. Got a few offers of about £150 from people:rotfl: Looking at their accounts they obviously sold the same kind of thing and were looking for a healthy profit at my expense. Soon took the best offer bit off and sold them the next day for the full asking price.
I know if you don't ask you don't get, but do they honestly think sellers will accept about 1/3 of the BIN price? The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I don't know about new items because that's different, but with second hand it is only worth what someone wants to pay. I saw a couple of wingback chairs with BIN £70 or offers. I was tempted to offer half of that because to me that's all their worth. They're covered in vinyl so would need recovering but I guess if you're incontinent then they might be just what you're after as they are. I decided against making the offer because they have been listed before at the same price so I guess the seller has a price in mind he or she thinks they're worth.0

Plenty of sellers do. I'd have thought it unlikely that anyone would accept below half of a fixed price but a surprising amount do..0 -
You ask for it listing best offer. Everything sells eventually.0

I never know why people get so emotive about buying and selling.
It's what I did for years, if you don't like their offer don't accept it.
I've bought loads of things being a bit cheeky ('do they desperately need the money?') and expect people to try it on with me. I have sold loads of things to peeps who have tried a cheeky offer and then we've negotiated - at least they're paying an interest !Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
If someone invites offers on something I am after I always start off at half price - and occasionally I get the item for that!! And tbh buyers are doing you a favour buying things IYSWIM, if we did not buy then you would not sell! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
