Hi, I'm posting on behalf of my DS who's just moved into a flat.
The flat are has TV aerial points and roof top aerials.
Cannot get a signal on the TV at all - can hear a tiny bit of crackly sound, and can only get complete snow storm picture wise.
Assuming it was a problem with the Aeriel,he went out a purchased an internal Aeriel but the same thing happened.
Its not the TV as he also has a portable for the bedroom and the same thing happens.
The flat is in a residential area (close to city centre) is on top of a hill and is not known to be a "bad signal" area.
Anybody have any ideas what the problem may be ?
Thanks

Indoor aerials are very poor
All he can do is get the rooftop aerial sorted out:idea:0 -

I know that they are generally poor, but this seems unusually bad (if that makes sense)
I suppose he'll have to invest in sky.
I just thought that maybe we were missing something obvious to do with the digital swich over.
Many thanks anyway guys.0 -

Crossed posts.
Thats what I was thinking.
He did try with a free view box and the Tv has built in free view - it may sound silly, but you don't have to flick a switch or anything ?0 -
When I first used my freeview box it took some minutes to search for the digital channels (which are toward the top of the frequency band on the transmitter I'm on).
However, I'm a bit confused by your saying he gets crackly sound and a snowstorm on screen - digital either works clearly or doesn't work at all. It sounds to me like the tv is switched to analogue terrestrial and failing to find that signal.
As a simple check, do you have a VHS video recorder? Connect it with a RF (aerial) lead and try playing a tape while the tv is tuning in, and see if the tv locks on to the video signal. Also check that the freeview box and the tv are connected correctly - some scart leads only work in one direction instead of being fully wired.0 -
By the way, how many inputs does the tv have, and what are they?0

Phoning him now - will report back....................0

Possibly the communal aerial system is knackered which is why everyone else in the block has got Sky. He needs to speak to the managing agents. Presumably there is a service charge to include the telly aerial.
It's not necessary to pay for satellite telly - see Freesat.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
