Why? They will basically tell you to bog off. You MUST have exhausted the compalints procedure with the company in question first before you go to the ombudsman. The GE website does tell you how to complain/appeal and I believe the letter they send you rejecting you explains how you can appeal.
Also, remember credit card companies are well within their rights to accept or reject ANYBODY they wish - without reason. It is not a god given right for you to have their credit card.
Sorry to be harsh but your post made you sound like a teenager throwing a tantrum.Save a life. Learn emergency first aid.

Oops - seem to have upset some people here.
I certainly didn't mean to sound as if I was throwing a tantrum. To be honest, I'm just rather relieved to find that other people have been rejected for no apparent reason. My hubby has appealed and was unhappy with the way it was dealt with. He did make several calls and just got frustrated with the lack of information the people on the other end of the phone had/were prepared to give him. (Probaby exacerbated by the fact that both Nationwide and IF were excellent in the same situation).
If anyone can tell us of an effective complaints procedure somewhere on the GE website, that isn't just an unhelpful recorded message, then please let me know.
Of course we understand it's not our right to be given any card we apply for, equally these companies do need to have their houses in order in terms of their procedures.
Apologies to anyone who thought I was having a 'toys out of pram' moment. I forget sometimes how easy it is for the written word to be misinterpreted.
In the meantime, if anything useful happens with the ombudsman, I'll let you know. If GE amend their complaints procedure and/or make it clearer on the website (either through the ombudsman or this thread;) ), then something will have been achieved.
Good luck to everyone with any future credit card applications.

Hello
I dont want to bang on about this, and I am certainly not gloating; I have been accepted and I have appalling credit history; some 6 or 7k over credit cards and am normally refused applications...
I didnt think they were being picky at all....0 -
i have been lucky enough to get this card today, i only have 2 other cards with £4k debt - managed to get the BT capped :T
if the BT has been accepted today, how many working days should i expect to wait until i see the funds cleared on my old card?
cheers0 -

It could be that they are being picky for people they think will make them money (i.e. do balance transfers which they may not clear off by the end of the promo rate)Save a life. Learn emergency first aid.
