I dunno whether you would be eligible for it but could you get a crisis loan through the jobcentre?

Could your OH look for another position working for somebody else and either give up his business or fit it in around employed hours?

If you are over 25 I think you might be entitled to Working Tax Credits. Someone else will correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not an expert but just going by what I have read on this board.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Sorry to hear your partner is out of work, my OH is an electrical supervisor/foreman manager and has been out of work for 10 months, but has finally got a job, starting in July thank god, he has sent off hundreds of CV's but a lot of them weren't even acknowledged  and we thought it might have had something to do with his age (62) then since he got offered this job he has had another 4 offers!! bloody typical!
Your partner will just have to persevere with job hunting, there is quite a lot of agencys online you can register with for job alerts for electricians.
Hope he has some luck soon :)
