Moving day Tomorrow - any tips??

I am having full blown palpitations thinking about tomorrow, I have been in a complete guddle with boxes and stuff everywhere for the past week, that I`m now getting rather stressed about tomorrow.

Can anyone give me any tips - bear in mind I also have a 4 year old to juggle, although my partners parents will be on hand to help.

Let the removal men do as much as you can, you'll have enough to do when they've gone.

Keep the kettle and tea things handy. Also your solicitor and EAs phone number.

Remember whatever problems arise at least you'll be in you new house at last.

Don't forget to eat, we reached 7pm and realised we hadn't eaten since breakfast!

    Best of luck!

We moved about a mile using proper removals people last time.

Don't assume they'll go straight from picking up to dropping off.

Ours disappeared (in the huge lorry with 99% of our stuff in) for lunch for an hour and a half, leaving us in the new house with only a teaspoon to cut cheese and spread butter with to make sandwiches. We couldn't go out for lunch for fear of them turning up with our stuff and finding us gone!

Obvious things like leave kettle out, extra milk etc as you'll be brewing all day. Sus out nearest takeaway early on - you'll need it! Meter readings etc.

Try to have 1 room looking reasonable by the end of the day - pref. living room. Don't put any boxes in there etc, retire with a glass of wine (keep that out too, red best unless you're super organised and can chill champagne ;) ).

Leave out tools.... they will be needed

Leave house as clean as poss & is nice to leave new occupants a bottle....

Last time I moved I was getting over the flu and OH had to go to work. I kept the living room tidy & put some music on - really nice - I'd told OH, DS & DD I wanted to chill as feeling awful. All went well until OH & DS decided to retune TV - and spent an hour failing to do so and causing havoc. Ended up going to bed in a huff. Next morning I walked into living room, looked over at wall and plugged aerial back in  . So last tip - don't let men do anything technical.......

Finally, chill out and enjoy your new home!!!!!

Pack a "ready steady go" box this should contain all relevant paperwork for house, solicitors no, cheque book, cash, pen and paper. On the practical side mugs, teaspoons, tea, coffee, sugar, kettle, milk, kitchen towel, hand wash/soap, loo roll, some cleaning supplies. ;) Don't forget to pack bedlinen in handy box for your first nights sleep we forgot and searched boxes for an hour and a half  All this should be taken with you in your car/vehicle so as not to be lost.

For the first most frantic part, see if your partners parents can take your 4yr old out, one less stressful thing. It might be a good idea also if your 4yr old packs a small box or case of their own that they can take to the new house and unpack in their room helps them adjust and feel part of the process. If it's too late in the day for that try and get some of his/her bedroom "bits" unpacked for the first night again to help them settle quicker. :D

Also try labelling the rooms so the removals people will know which room is which if you've labelled your boxes "kitchen" "Lounge" etc.

Love the wine idea a real bonus at the end of the day

Sorry that was a bit long but I was on a roll :o Good luck and let us know how it went :D

but on a more practical note as well as teas/coffees/kettles box etc

    crucially, dont forget to pack

    Loo Roll and
    Light bulbs
    pegs -

in case they have taken curtains, at least you can quickly peg up some sheets at the windows will the next day

some vendors are unbelievably mean !

    hope it all goes well

dont forget you are paying movers to do the work, - let them do it !!!!!

Enlist the help of family and friends to help with the unpacking.

And don't burn yourself out trying to get everything done in one day - as long as you have something to sit on, food and water, and somewhere to sleep the rest is unimportant!

    Best of luck

    Enjoy your new house :)
