Hi everyone - this isn't really an important question but I'm gong to ask it here because you may be able to satisfy my curiosity!
My partner is currently undergoing cancer treatment at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff - I've been watching the different nurses going about their jobs - obviously some are senior to others but do the colours of their uniforms mean anything?
There are white, light blue, dark blue and a sort of grey colour one with what looks like small stripes.
Anyone know what all these mean?

From what I can gather from being in hospital myself the dark blue is the ward sister, the light blue is the regular nurses, grey is for the ward help, they can help with meals, gettin gyour comfortable changing stuff etc but not allowed to give you meds although I could be wrong, not sure on the wite one. Again I could be wrong and I am in England but not sure if that makes any difference.

It varies from hospital to hospital - in our hospital - dark blue=sister, white=qualified staff nurse, light blue=pupil nurse.0

In Manchester, it seemed to be: dark blue for sisters, lighter blue for nurses; green for nursery nurses; white for students. Orderlies were easiest to distinguish in their black & white stripe tops.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

When FIL was in hospital in London, some of the uniforms were a lovely raspberry colour - even for the chaps!Signature removed for peace of mind0

your best bet is to ask the staff themselves. most staff, including physiotherapists, radiographers, health care assistants, occupational therapists, etc, wear colour- coded tunics, and all vary from one trust to another!
ideally they should also wear ID badges stating their position. don't be afraid to ask them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...
