Caught some of this programme the other night and there was a recipe for a chickpea curry which seemed nice, have googled it no no avail - the recipes aren't on the BBC site, anyone got a nice chickpea curry recipe? Cheers
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!

I saw the program and it looked like a chana masala, there are tons of recipes on google for that and its my favourite meal!

Finely chopped onion, couple of cloves of garlic and fry until soft. Add 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp ground coriander, 1/2 tsp turmeric and fry until fragrant. Add a can of chickpeas (or the soaked and cooked equivalent), some spinach or chard or similar, a can of chopped tomatoes (or fresh tomatoes chopped up). Cook 10-15 minutes.

I ocassionally add some tamarind paste or some lemon juice before serving as well as some fresh coriander if you have some.
  • I made chickpea curry today misskool. More or less identical to your recipie (I made it up) But I made it with indian spices, given to me by a neighbour who went there. It was nice but the kids thought it was a bit too hot. I really should stop putting the cardomon pods in, it puts them right off. I like them though. It is the first time I had used chickpeas. I soaked half a bag yesterday and cooked them all this morning. I made the curry and humus and froze another portion for another meal. So was very cheap.

    ah, thanks buxtonrabbitgreen,

also add some chopped fresh chilli or chilli powder or dried chillies for some heat if you like it (i'm such a chilli addict that I do it without thinking)

We have a whole thread ;) As this has fallen from the front page of Old Style, I'll merge this to keep recipes together.
