The car runs no differently since having the additive

I found the above information relating to the testing of automatics, why would this info be provided for test stations if there was no chance of the gearbox overheating during the test?

To placate the clueless, not for the benefit of the MOT testers. Redlining it even a dozen times wouldn't damage the autobox. My wife has a 1995 FTO and she redlines her car many times daily.

To overheat the autobox, you'd need to sit there with your foot on the accelerator with the engine screaming its nuts off for 5 or 10 minutes.

The mechanic also managed to use £10 of diesel doing about 8 miles.
    Serious abuse,hmmmm:(
    .

Absolute unadulterated poppycock. You couldn't even manage to do that in a fully loaded 44 tonne lorry unless it was climbing a steep hill. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

You can't prove anything because nothing happened except in your head.

More and more in this thread, its looking like you had a right old dog of a car, mechanically, took it for an MOT and it broke so now you're looking for someone to blame. The only person abusing the car would appear to have been you by driving it along like Miss Daisy all the time and leaving it stood for long periods, neither of which do cars much good. They need a good thrashing every so often to clear them out.

The fact you're now coming out with all kinds of wild completely fanciful claims of a mechanic who apparently can drive a diesel car so hard it does half the MPG of a 44 tonne lorry just goes to show there's no point in continuing this thread.

Oh, and as you're not a qualified mechanic, I doubt being able to watch an MOT is going to be of any benefit because its not like you have a clue what is going on or whether its right or not.

FYI, yesterday I took my car for its MOT. Its a 04 plate Mondeo diesel with 138,000 miles on the clock. It passed first time like it does every year and without breaking just because it had its nuts revved off. In fact I revved the nuts off it myself as I drove at 50MPH in 2nd gear for a few miles round the bypass just to ensure it was up to temp and clear its throat.

I suggest you buy brand new cars and change them before the first MOT is due. That way, you'll have nothing to complain about although I'm quite sure you'll be thinking the garage doesn't do the servicing properly.
  • 1. Fuel additive will not directly affect the gearbox
    2. Revving the car in neutral will not damage the engine or gearbox
    3. The gearbox ECU (if it has one, what car is it) may have adjusted the gearchanges due to the high revving. Mercedes cars do this, drive like a bank thief and the gearbox will behave differently
    4. Cars can go faulty at any time. There is just as much likelihood of it going faulty in a garage, as there is while you're driving it.

For what it's worth the vehicle is a 4x4 so only does about 25mpg, I don't drive like Miss Daisy but as I stated, it had not been used that much before the MOT (prob once a week) partly thanks to fuel prices.
It runs (ran) and looks like a new car and is well maintained and cherished.
This is the first time it has failed an MOT.
I came on here asking for your opinions but it's a shame some of you have to put them across so rudely.
Thanks to those that have been polite, I will check out the ECU idea, it may be old but it is quite advanced.
