HDMI troubles: Sky+HD and Sharp TV

Took plunge and got me a Sky+HD box.
Self installed no problems.
The HDMI output won't work* with my 3 year old Sharp HD ready TV,
I had problems previously with a Panasonic DVD recorder which has an HDMI output, but got this to work by switching off the HDMI control.
Spoke to Sharp and surfed the problem, Sharp want £90 to send someone out to 'fix' it. Bit reluctant to throw a lot of money at it as I had been thinking of upgrading to a new set.

I did have the thought that passing the signal via an HDMI switch box might fix it maybe if it blocked the HDCP signal.

* The fault is that when the TV input is switched to the HDMI port no picture is received but the sound continues. To get any picture back the TV mains has to be recycled.

The replacement tellys I've been looking at are the Samsung LE40C650 and the Sony 40EX503, or the 37 inch versions.
These are 1080p, 100Hz,Freeview HD and t'internet enabled.

PS What's the going rate for old Sky+ boxes?

PPS I'm rambling now, need coffee!
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Reporting back, problem solved, its all down to the pesky Pin13 in the HDMI cable.
It carries the CEC ( consumer electronics connection) signal. Called various things like Viera link, however my ancient set wont work with it.
Disabling the pin in the connector with a strategically placed bit of sellotape means that I'm now watching the England match in glorious HD.
