Claiming back parental allowance.

Hello, recently my mother went to see an independent tax adviser and during the conversation the advisor mentioned that my mum may be able to claim back some sort of parental allowance which she didn't claim when she was bringing my brother and I up. I was born in 1974 and my brother 1977 and he mentioned this allowance was created I think in 1978. As she didn't work until at least the mid 80's, would she be able to claim anything back during this period that she was bringing us both up or does such an allowance not exist? Apparently not many people now about this so I was wondering if anyone on here does?

The only thing I can think of is the Home Responsibilities Protection which reduced the number of years you needed to get a pension. It isn't money she can claim back but it will help towards her pension.

Yep, HRP was introduced in 1978 and CB in 1977.
