Hey all
I thought it would be useful to have a thread on when and where there are school fetes, village fetes, craft fairs, car boots, jumble sales and the like on in the Swansea/Llanelli/Carmarthen/NPT areas.
Anyone think it's a good idea?
I live in Llanelli but am a Swansea girl originally, and I work throughout Carmarthenshire.
I do buy the Llanelli Star and look out for events but I can't afford to buy all the papers for the area just to look for events. I don't have kids or know people with kids so miss out on school fairs.
So I think a collective list may be of interest to a few people.
Let me know what you think and if you know of any events please add them in a reply

As a buyer, the best car boot I've been to recently is the one in the Singleton Hospital car park. It's absolutely brilliant with many stalls and a great variety of items. I'm not sure what time it runs - I have a feeling it's 08:00 to 13:00 or something similiar. I imagine it would be difficult to get in as a buyer though, since there are so many people there.
I also went to the one at Liberty Stadium, held on a Sunday. This one is apparently £10 to go in as a buyer, which IMO is way too much because the car boot was pretty crappy with hardly any cars and small stalls. I've only been once so maybe it is better on other weekends.
These might be a little out of the way, but the car boot held in the multistorey car park next to Aldi in Bridgend is also quite good sometimes. Often there will be a lot of sellers, but then other times you go and there is scarcely the first floor filled. Not sure what causes it to vary so. Held on a Sunday - think it might be 10:00 - 1:00??
The car boot held on a Sunday at Porthcawl is also great if the weather is good. Another Sunday one. Not sure about the times.0 -

£5 outside and £10 outside.
make more money at singleton though, liberty is pretty crappy returns wise.0 -

I went to the Singleton car boot sale this morning, near Swansea. Just to reccy, ahead of taking a pitch there sometime soon. Some observations:
Pitch prices, £10 per car, £15 for car + trailer, or van. Buyers carparking £1. Money apparently goes to the hospital.
It's across the road from Singleton Hospital, the other side of Sketty Lane.
I arrived at 4:55am, parking on the Foreshore car park opposite the bottom of Sketty Lane. (Free till 9am). Others were parked on the main hospital carpark (it's free - but is meant for hospital users and you can be asked to show your appt card, according to the notices).
The site is a huge clean brick-paved car park, marked out in nose-to-nose car bays with 20ft aisles between. It's on a slight slope. Entrance barrier at bottom end was opened at 5am. About 2-3 dozen sellers had been queuing outside before then. The burger van had been set up earlier. Early sellers are directed to the top end. There are several marshalls, one of whom checked who I was when he saw me taking photos and making notes. About 60 sellers were in place by 5:30am. By 7am there were abou 90-100 sellers, and about 20 spaces remaining. Sellers in cars were spaced about 4ft apart (taking about a bay and a half each). Vans mostly parked astride the central baylines, parallel to aisles, but some parked like cars.
There didn't appear to be any restriction on how far each seller spread out into the aisles - most kept tidily close to their cars but one or two spread halfway across the aisle. A few sellers priced all their goods, some priced a few items, but the majority of stalls were unpriced. There is no toilet on site (I was directed across the dual carriageway to the hospital toilet).
Early on, there was a loose group of about a dozen or so buyers traipsing around together, looking at each new arrivee - but not being pushy.
With the pitch price being higher than the local average, I kind of expected that there might be a bigger proportion of pricier items, but most of the goods were cheaply priced. Lots of sub-£1 items, lots of £2-3 items. Very few items above a tenner except on stalls geared specifically to selling just a dozen or so pieces of small furniture etc.
I came away at 7am, but glanced on my way past at 8:30am by when there was a steady inward flow of buyers cars but no long queue outside (that might just be thanks to efficient marshalling).
I wasn't there to shop (bought a mere handful of small items), but I found myself more interested in stalls whose goods were laid out neatly, and walking past those that were heaped up like a jumble sale. But other buyers I guess might prefer those where there's plenty to rummage through. I spoke briefly with a few sellers and found the atmosphere friendly all over the site.
The skies were grey, and the ground a little damp, but with no rain. I imagine the site can feel pretty bleak in wet windy weather, tilted as it is towards Swansea Bay.0 -
Beware if you are going to sell at the Singleton car boot sale. You have to be there at the crack of dawn to have any chance of a spot.
I was there at a little after 6am this morning and was turned away with my car full of household clutter along with many others, a depressing experience. I was told that you have no chance after 5.30am on a dry day in the summer.
It can be very busy and when I have sold there before I have had the experience of people circling the car and rummaging in my stuff and even in my car as I am putting things out. I am used to this now so tips are
1 Go for a wander before unloading your car. 2 Put table / rail etc up as barriers before unloading. 3 make sure your car is locked as you unload.
Also don't be tempted to sell your stuff cheap to early morning buyers, it gets busiest around 9 - 11am so is worth waiting.
Otherwise its a good boot sale to visit for buying although there are lots of traders (probably as they are aware of the early start and many others are turned away).
The other main boot sale is Swansea is Julians Supermarket in Gorseinon on Sunday mornings. Ok but a bit messier than Singleton. Spread over a small car park and a field.
I have not been to the one at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday mornings, quite new so I am not sure that it has picked up yet.0 -
What time does the site open to sellers at Julians tomorrow? I've looked online and some people reccomend you get there by 6, another place said it doesnt open to sellers until 7!0
