Hi,

I created another thread hoping it will get more views after new developments since my last post in my thread entitled:

"Everything Missing & XP PC Not Working......Themed32.DLL Message"

I managed to do a Full Format and Reinstall XP.....my first time ever!:j

My Brother got hold of XP sp2. However there are some Drivers missing and I haven't been able to install any Windows Updates, the reasons for which will become clearer.

In Device Manager the following 3 have got yellow question (?) and exclamation marks (!) against them:

Ethernet Controller

Multimedia Audio Controller

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

I am unable to connect the PC to the internet via a cable modem (Virgin), presume that is related to Ethernet Controller (?).

I'm not sure what to do now......I tried to run "Sandra Lite" on that PC after downloading it on a USB from a wireless Laptop (our sky connection in same property......don't ask!) I'm not sure Sandra Lite is meant to be run this way with no internet connection on that PC and Drivers missing. Anyway, when I tried to run it, both from the USB stick, and after saving it on PC's Hard Drive, it kept on making the PC Restart......so Ive stopped with that.

Sorry......I'm just going to create another post as what I'm about to paste may not fit in......

    Continued.....

I'm at a loss what to do now, especially as that PC not having internet access makes any possible download trickier. I thought if I provided some info about PC, wishful thinking probably, but some may be able to guide me in the right direction.

After going into Accessories, System Tools, System Infomation.....I got the following info:

I'm sure I've done the hard and time consuming part.....I just need your help to hopefully put the finishing touches!

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    Thank you for that.

I shall take a look and download it onto USB.....sorry if it sounds like a silly question.......but once I have the drivers on my USB where on C drive shall I transfer them over to, so that they are actually in the right place to be acknowledged by those devices?

Sorry.......in addition, I'm not sure which section I should go for, for each of the 3 devices I've listed.....for example for Ethernet Controller do I go to "Driver-Network"?

Video Controller (VGA Compatible) - "Driver - Graphics"?

Multimedia Audio Controller - "Software - Multimedia"?

AND as there are more than one downloads for each section how do I know which to download?

By the way the PC was bought as used, so no additional info or drivers available.

    Thanks

The most important is the Ethernet or Wireless Controllers(dependent on your method of Internet access), which would be under Driver - Network.
Choose the second in the list; Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Drivers for Microsoft Windows XP Download and un-zip to your USB drive. Now plug the portable drive into the driverless machine and double-click on the Setup file. It will install the driver in the correct place.
If it's still necessary, you can follow Browntoa's advice in post #5, but omit the part about pointing it at the USB drive, just let it search for it automatically.
Now you should have Internet access if you have connected the PC to your router.

Navigate back to the HP site as indicated by Browntoa in #3 and download and install the other drivers. If you need help in deciding which one is needed, look here.
