Dwp debt managment can not keep up payment help

Hi All,
I wondered if you could help or advised me, as i need to pay back approximate £12,064 back to DWP Debt Managament, i usually paid approximate £40 or sometimes £ 20 and this may not be regular.

I do get reminder noticed if i do not make the payments.

They usually send me the income/expenditure form and i fill it in and send it off.

I agreed to pay back the money £20 a week, but i am now struglling to pay back the money i owe the DWP.

I do not what will happned if i do not keep up with the payment or the last case just can not afford to pay back the debt off.

Can they write the debt off, as i am struggling for means, as the company i worked for reduced hours and i got other loan to pay off which i borrowed money to purcahse the house.

I am in deep trouble.

Please help.

Why do you think they should write the debt off?

Why are you unable to keep up the repayments that you agreed to?
    Gone ... or have I?

Out of the £12,064 that you owe, how much have you paid?

The tax man is one creditor who will not write debt off I am afraid, they will take it to court and eventually bankrupt you.

Harsh but true HMRC are non forgiving.

Maybe the OP should post this on the Debt Free Wannabe board instead of this one. I presume they are not hoping that benefits will kick in to clear their debt.

HMRC are priority debts, loans aren't.. therefore you should keep your repayments up to HMRC and default on the loan; the loan won't put you in prison but HMRC can!

Sorry to break this too you i also owe them a lot of money and i have to pay them what we agreed to start and i have not missed a payment to them, they can and will take you to court for the money no questions asked, and this isn't a debt that any company can write off its a simple as that,

  • the debt could possibly recovered from your pension, which would be a worse time surely to be having deductions made. best pay what you can, get it cleared now rahter than at pension age!!you say you've completed I & E forms so presumably the repayments are set at a level that takes your other essential outgoings into consideration?

If you are struggling to repay then get in touch with them. A lot of people make the mistake of sticking their head in the sand hoping the debt will go away - it won't.
Before you do this, sit down and make a list of all your outgoings; include everything - right down to magazines and newspapers. Is there anything you can do without (such as the magazines & newspapers, Sky TV, Friday night trip to the pub etc etc), just see if you can make up that £20 a week from somewhere else. If you can't then get in touch with them and see if they will come to another arrangement - be open with them so they can try to help.
I have not been in the position you are in with DWP but I have been there with debts (thanks to the ex husband:mad:) and I put my life on hold until I'd got the debts to a manageable state.

    Hi All,
dmg24~: i just have any money left, as i have been paying this debt from 2006 May out of that i have paid £3000.

    DX2~: i have paid approximate £3000.

The letter said it was an overpayment, so they said i need to pay the money back this was JSA/IS back in 2002-2004.

I will fill in the from SOA as advised by the debt forum and take it from there. I am only working 16hrs a week, i get working/child tax credit/ Child benefit and then i am looking for a 2nd job, as at the moment i am helping the Disability centre for the Learning difficulties and wheelchair bound and taking them around with the organiser.
