tax credit question - confused

hi

another tax credit question for you. i split from my hubby last july. i've had my tax credits renewal for my single claim & sent it back with my earnings from july 09 - april 10. i recieved my joint claim renewal today for april 09 - july 09. when i phoned up with both earnings, i was asked for my earnings for the full year which is what i'm confused about. she also wouldn't take my husband's earnings from me. i've decided i will fill the form out as well but on p2 it says income for tax year 6 april 2009 to 5 april 2010. on p3, it asks for personal circumstances for 06/04/2009 to 19/07/2009 but has nowhere i can write my earnings for just that period. i can't even attach a note as the form's computer fed. am i making sense?? any advice greatly appreciated.

what makes it worse is i'm now back with my hubby & we have a joint claim going through right now... arghh

The annual income is correct for each claim unit during the year. You have to declare the same full year income on the single claim and the joint claim even if the claims don't run for the full year. The computer will apportion it on a time basis. As you have declared part of the year income on the single claim you will have to call again to correct it to the full year income.

even if a claim is only in place for part of the year you should still be declaring the full years income on your renewal. so you should have gave the whole years income on your renewal for the single claim also.
it is always the case that they cant take the other applicants info from you on a joint claim that has now ended, they would always need to call up seperately.
