How much is Frontline at the vets?

Hi all,

Cats are due a frontline again but I've just been to get it and the cupboard is bare!

I need to do it ASAP as we have just got 2 new kittens so they all need it. I could go and get it from the vets tomorrow, or I could order it online if there is a massive price difference!

So, do you know how much Frontline costs at the vets?

Thanks,

Kevin x

I think different vets charge different prices so best give your vet a call and see what they charge.

Depends on the Vet. You could always ask them.

Lloyds pharmacy, which is more expensive than above website, has a £5 voucher for frontline instore ih the Telegraph today, which brings it down to about the same price without postage. Might be in other papers as well cos it is an advert? Might be easier option if you have Lloyds pharmacy near you?

What makes the charges "stupid"? Just because they are more expensive than an on-line place that will get a higher discount from the manufacturer. Just because the on-line place has lower overheads than your vet on the high street, who can give expert advice, does not make them stupid.

This is a free country, your vet can charge what they want and you can choose to pay it or not. Stupid would be having a price so low that you can't sustain a business.

I have 3 moglets and my vet charges 25 pounds for 3 sachet thingys to pour on their necks or I more recently found out I can get 6 of the same sachets for 16 pounds from the internet. With 3 cats as soon as one gets fleas they all do so I have to keep them protected and couldn't afford to do this if I had to buy from the vets every month. However, my vet gets lots of buisness from me as one cat is epileptic, one had her tail removed couple months ago (to the tune of 400 quid) and the other is (touch wood) ok. Hope that helps,

It's worth checking out Amazon - I got the exact same Frontline pack that I usually get off the vet for only £11 :j
Checked the carton and there's no difference. Also got Nectar points at the same time.
Got Drontal pack and Frontline for grand total of £24 including postage and they came within 2 days.

Not sure how much it costs from the vets, but we just got some for our little angel from Pets at Home. I think it was £14.99 for 3 doses.

Bear in mind that most vets stock Frontline Combo, whereas the pharmacies and online shops can only sell Frontline. This probably accounts for some of the price difference.

Frontline Combo contains an extra ingredient intended to prevent development of flea eggs/larvae as well as killing adult fleas.

I wouldn't recommend Frontline at all, there are far better treatments out there for the price. The only benefit of apparently buying the over-priced flea treatments from a vet is because they SHOULD be stored correctly to keep them effective, but this is probably done at online stores too and is just a way for the vet to justify ripping you off.

I don't know if vets get paid to recommend Frontline, but it is a completely useless product. I've seen a cat flea jump into the Frontline vial and swim around, no harm done. I treated my cats with it for months and the kittens too, it led to a complete infestation. We used the Frontline Combo and also, one was treated with the spray. Neither worked they are utterly useless but despite telling my vet the Frontline was not working as the cats still had fleas, despite me flea spraying the house, flea combing them, washing everything and hoovering, I was told to wait or just trust that the Frontline was working. I'm afraid it's a case of the Emperor's New Clothes and if you hear it enough from the vet, you think it's a great product even if you can physically see it doesn't work. I just kept waiting, kept thinking I was doing something wrong, kept believing the vet despite the honest truth staring me in the face.

I switched to Advocate and oh, big surprise, most of the fleas were completely dead within hours and within days, not a flea was left. I am SO frustrated that we lived with fleas for so long and when guests came round, they were getting bitten, it was so embarrassing for people to think we were dirty cat people. We have been flea-free for over 3 months now and have only used 2 treatments of Advocate. Versus how many months wasted to Frontline.

Do not waste your money, if you use this product once and it doesn't work, don't bother getting it again- trust your instincts. The vet will try to convince you any other bizarre reason is at fault- there are fleas in the grass outside, the fleas are dying but you can't see them, the life-cycle is being broken but it takes a while to kill all the fleas, blah blah blah but trust me from months of experience, the results will be the same- fleas are still hopping around your house like they own the place. Just switch treatment to something that actually works. I couldn't recommend Advocate enough over this rubbish.
