Mobile phones from Amazon

We buy quite a bit from Amazon, but only books, CDs, DVDs downloads. I'm thinking of quite an expensive mobile phone and I can get what I want cheaper from Amazon than CPW etc.
If it goes wrong, Amazon seem to be saying deal with the manufacturer. I had always understood that the contract is with the seller and they are responsible if the item becomes defective - in other words they deal with the defect, if necessary with the manufacturer in your behalf. Seems that Amazon don't really want to be dealing with an item after they have sold it (unless it arrives damaged).
In the case of a mobile or other electrical item, I would prefer to be able to return it to the high street store where I bought it, and never with the manufacturer. But there is a good saving to be made online.
The only other electrical item I bought online was a microwave from Sainsbury's and they are very clear that if the item goes wrong within the normal guarantee period they will collect and replace it, liaising with the manufacturer withn the terms of the guarantee.
What are people's experiences of Amazon in this regard please?

You're correct the sales contract is with the retailer so for faults you should deal with them (in the first six months at the very least).
For other goods I know Amazon are happy with that, don't know why it should be different for mobile phones.0 -
Is it through Amazon itself, or Marketplace?0
