Can dealer withdraw part of deal after I agree to buy?
Options
I offered to buy a new motorcycle from a franchised dealer, based on their published deal which said in black and white that it included a free first service. They've also given me a good PX deal on my current bike and some freebies. When I asked them to confirm some details they said the service is half price (£150) and not free. It looks to me like they are trying to recoup some costs. Can I hold them to their original, advertised deal? No money has changed hands yet.

If it's in black and white then you should be ok - was it in an advert in the paper or online? As online advertising is still a very grey area.0

It was in motorcyclesupermarket.com.
They are a well-established dealer and I've had a good relationship with them for a couple of years through having my current bike serviced and buying accessories. It would be a shame if they were taking the mick now.
I've a hard copy of the advert if it makes any difference. Currently I'm waiting for a response to my email in which I drew their attention to the original wording.0 -
If you have something on paper its better, but if just verbal they can be held in breach of verbal contract, but its your word against theirs..
Good luck0 -
Like I say, if its in the paper, then they are legally bound by it. If it was internet advertising then its a grey area.
ie how many cars do you see advertised on Autotrader website with the mileage of 112? Not 112,000, just 112. Imagine the uproar it'd cause if that was in the paper advert?0
