Cheapest way to insulate loft?

Options
Wow. I've learnt so much along this journey of insulation!

Thermal blankets, Fibre Glass, Celotex, (and it's apparent useless reflective layer) double bubble wrap, insulation paints and much more.

There are building regulations that have to be met, but what combination of insulations are best, cheapest and eco friendliest! (Forget the blowing broken plastic bottles or the like - ex-pen-sive!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'll admit I'm getting a little lost in it all.

Thus far, it seems to be: rockwoool, superfoil 40 and insulated plasterboard.. but this might be alllllll wrong.

you need to add a layer of rocwhool in between the joists and another one to cross them over most people just put inbetween roof joists which isnt sufficent

Thanks for that, but I think that would be for lofty loft, where as this is slightly pitched and beamed, so we don't have MUCH of a loft to insulate so the insulation needs to be as slim as poss!

Well, if you don't want to put insulation in it, you will have to use one of the reflective foil solutions. Alternatively, you could use expanded foam sheets. Neither are as cheap as standard wool type insulation.

The cheapest and most eco-friendly solution I can think of is to invest in a hand cranked shredder and start collecting old newspapers.

What building regs do you need to meet?
