Tax credits overpayment help

Hello
I've recently paid back my Tax Credits overpayments (there were six years in total ). 5 years worth were joint claims with my ex, the last overpayment was a single claim. I've paid back 50% of the joint ones and all of the single one. They told me that if I paid that, if it ever went to court, the court wouldn't make me pay any more than this as we were jointly liable for the overpayment. Is this true, I don't want to have struggled to have paid all this back for them to go and say I now owe them my ex's half too? He is on JSA and has thousands of debts in his name, none of which he is paying, so I know he will try and worm his way out of paying this back too.
Thanks, Sam

i had this the year i split with my ex. he went on to do loads of overtime after he moved out and put the claim into overpayment for the part-year. i am paying back 50%, but i made them agree that i only owed my 50% first! the real pain is that they wont even take his address from me for him to pay his part back.0

Hi I was told when overpaid on a joint claim that both were responsible and I could make arrangements to pay off half and that they would recover the other half from my ex it wasn't a huge amount so I said that I would pay it all and did. So I would say well done you for working so hard and paying your share, and don't worry they will recover from your ex.Remember every waking moment is a chance to turn it all around.;) Knowledge is the key to respect.
