To answer your original question, the setup disk is asking you to attach your PC to the router using an ethernet cable.
Your relative would have done this and then moved on to set up wireless access.

Your Netgear router requires three sets of usernames and passwords.

The first being those provided to you by your ISP, in your case AOL.
These are needed to identify you to your ISP.
The second are the codes to identify your wireless connection to the router.
You should have these, if not get your relative to tell you what they are, as you wont get very far if they are lost.

There is a third set of username/passwords that is used to log on to the router itself, in the netgear case its usually username : admin, password: admin, to log on to your router click on this:- http://192.168.0.1
That gum you like is coming back in style.

quick note - most Netgear's default logins are admin and password, not admin and admin ;)

You won't see your ISP logon details online, rather within the router's setup pages on it's web-based interface - see penrhyn's post for address for your router. Once logged into the router, find them and jot them down. Same for your wireless network element.

If you buy a new pc, (or wipe your pc and reinstall windows), and plug it into the router, you are on the net, the router has your aol login details stored in it permanently unless you reset it, or it fails, no software needs to be installed on any pc ever while you have that router and pay aol for the internet connection

Thanks for this info, I did not know this actually. I didnt realise the router and netgear memorised everything actually. Thats really useful to know. Thanks
