Thats a 60hr week, working time directive kicks in.

How far are the schools do you drive it?

Can he take the kids to school and/or bring them back some days

The trick with these situations is not to get annoyed or bitter, decide want you want and work towards that look past the anoying power crazed cocky plebs atitude.

If time with the kids is important focus on that, work will soon need a shift change when someone is sick or on holiday thats when you get the upper hand if they won't commit to being flexable now.

I have told him if he doesnt like it then he as to look for another job and he cant rest on his laurals he has to actively look things wont fall into his lap. it will be better when he canspeak to the supervisor on site they do the job as well so are normally much more accomodating with information :-)

I think you can tell your company that you wish to opt back in at any time, obviously if you do this you could be seeing the door fairly sharpish
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
