OK, I just wanted to be clear, because it did seem that you were advising people with blight to throw away their compost.
In fact, the facts seem to be, that blight can survive in living plant matter over winter, so, if you have potatoes and it gets into the tubers, any left over can harbour the disease over winter.
But tomatoes should all die off and not be a problem, that's the reason I compost all off my infected material, I know it's dead, or soon will be, so the disease can't survive and I close the heap off so no spores can get out. It then stays in my heap for normally longer than a year and then gets spread on a non tomato and potato bed, for at least a year anyway.
However (there's usually a however) there has been cases of very rare cross hybrid blights that can survive the winter and there is a theroretical chance of special spores being produced that survive the winter, although the last time I checked it had never been actually seen in the UK.

Bearing in mind that blight spores travel miles, there is such a thing as overeacting. Compost that has had plants affected by blight should be fine, especially if you spread it on a bed over winter and don't grow tomatoes or potatoes there next year (which you shouldn't anyway)
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
