Income support overpayment

Hi, I received IS overpayment notice today. Thing is I've been paid IS while I was waiting for child maintenance to be sorted. And when I ask CSA about what to do with IS, they told I don't even have to call them and tell them that my CM started, they going to deduct IS from CM. I did call IS and told when my CM started. And when I received my CM, the IS amount owed was already deducted.
So does this actually true? I mean is it possible IS can be deducted from CM by them?

What I meant is : Child support agency told me they going to deduct income support I owe from child maintenance.
And now I'm told I have overpayment of IS. So can CSA deduct IS from CM or I was told wrong info?

It was just recently that your receipt of child maintenance had no effect on your IS - was it April sometime? Before that however, some of your child maintenance went to offset the payments from IS.

Yes it is from April CM had no effect on IS. But my first payment arrived only on 7th of May and it covered 9th Jan- 12th April. And amount I received look liked as if IS was deducted. My IS started on 2nd of Feb. So the overpayment period is 02/02/2010 - 12/04/2010. Although my CM was £153/w for this period.
When I contacted CSA they told me noncense like always. I ask one thing they answer me god knows what.

It is up to you to inform IS that you get CSA as it tells you with all maintenance schedules you get from CSA.

So from 02/02/10 - 12/04/10 your first £20 of child support is disregarded then anything after that is deducted pound for pound from your IS.

ETA: is that £153 per week child support? surely you didn't think you were entitled to IS aswell!
