Job Fairs

Has anyone on here attended a 'job fair'?. if so, what were your experiences?.
There is a job fair coming-up in my home town on Monday, and I might well go, especially if it opens-up oppotunities to return to work.
I have been on JSA since 11th of May, and most of the jobs in my local Jobcentre tend to be in ares in which I have no exp., and they pay nmw.
Never Knowingly Understood.

I went to graduate job fairs, they weren't that much use, you could apply with all the companies online anyway.

I've worked at a number of Jobs Fairs in the past - Generally there are lots of different companies/organisations with stalls that you can go round to find out about their current vacancies - and often also get more general information about what kind of careers they offer or at what times of year they recruit for certain posts etc (plus they often have a few freebies - pens, mugs etc that you can pick up - unless that's been cut back on in the recession!). Sometimes, there will be workshops (e.g. on how best to complete an application form or on a particular career area). There may also be stalls representing organisations who help people getting back into work.

the employers always tended to be a mixture of nhs, call centres and retail at the jobsfairs i have been to.

I intend to go, it's only 5 minutes down the A12 from me.

I need a job soon, got turned-down by Homebase (think I was to intelligent for them). Hopefully Businesslink will have a stand. Always fancied having a go at being a market trader (Ebay, carbootsales, town markets etc.)
Spent this afternoon listing loads of old computers games on ebay to get a bit of cash rolling-in.

I Will be taking loads of CV's to hand-out in case self-employment looks like a no-go.

    Definately do this.

I used to do Job Fairs for my old employer (civil service) and if the CV was good we would loosely interview on spot, and if candidate seemed appropriate they woould be invited to go throught he selection process without having to go through the normal selction procedure.

Obviously things may have changed now...

Premier, WTC turns nmw into £15.5k p/a, trouble is, the people offering jobs at nmw take one look at my qualifications and automatically come to the assumption that I wouldn't get out of bed for less than £10 p/a ( I wish).

The big question is, do I create 2 CV's, one with, and one without all my qualies?.

    i went to one-
it was a good networking opportunity with a variety of employers
and some good chances to get your face seen, hand out a cv etc.

they also had cv writing workshops etc.
i still get e-mails through them 3 years later though (and don't need a job)

you have to be willing to make the effort to talk to the stall holders though
as it was crowded and can feel impersonal.
