Bought a PNY Attache USB2.0 flash drive 512mb from PC world yesterday to hopefully transfer photos from my old PC to New...
Old PC runs on Win98SE and new XP PRO...
I went into the PNY website to download the relevant drivers for W98se.
I asked to save the files to desk top, then go to desk top and double click the icon. It says files extracted OK...
Then put flash into USB port and it says will search for drivers, but comes back with nothing. Been doing this since yesterday with the same result.
So put flash into new PC and it works fine.
Where am i going wrong, any ideas.??
Never had a flash drive before so don't know alot about them..Oh, the flash says it should work with 98se after downloading drivers from their web-site..
any help greatly appreciated...Paul.....

you will need to point windows to where the drivers are, think you can tell windows where to look for them.
xp has support for flash drives built in which is why it works straight away.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
Where do the drivers go ?
and if i knew where, how do i point it to them...
Cheers for the reply btw0 -
when windows finds the hardware is should give you a prompt to find the drivers automatically or for you to tell it where they are.
it doesn't matter where they are extracted to as windows will then copy them to where it needs them.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
Would that be when it says unable to locate drivers.......then i'm suppose to put some writting in a little search/file box0

yeah - you should be able to tell it where your newly extracted drivers are.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

ok, back again, managed to unzip the files to my desk top, which when i double click the icon, and a window opens with PNYUSB_Win98 written. Inside this folder are two icons.
If i double click the one called PU20DISK.pdr it opens a new box which says 'OPEN WITH', then underneath is a blank box, and a drop down menu with a list of my programmes in..
What shall i open it with? any ideas ..

there should be 3 files in that zip a .inf, a .sys, .pdr
windows uses the .inf for installing hardware, i can't remember does win98 have a add hardware in the control panel? if so do it through that and say have disk and point it to the .inf fileEver stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
Finally got there 24 hours later....
Thanks Woo for the promting, not 100% sure how i managed it but got there in the end....
