HI,
I hope this topic has not been posted before, couldn't see anything recent.
I have recently bought a website and hosting for a new business, however im not a great web guy and could do with some help/advice, on how I can get it up the google rankings without spending to much.
Are there any free programs or little tricks to get around this?
The only one i have currently heard is hiding words in white text so there not visible to the viewer however i have also been told this method is dated and no longer works...
Are there programs to down which help or is it the size and mass of text you feature on your site.
I am not expecting to jump to the first page, however to come up in the first
5 would be nice.
Does anyone have any advice which may help me on my way.
Many thanks in advance...

Not only does it no longer work, Google take a very dim view of this and will scrub any listing you may haveEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Content, content and backlinks!
There are no "tricks" like hiding words with white background. What's the point? If these words are relevant, put them in the page.
Ok, there are a few tricks.
1. submit your sitemap to Google & Co.
2. create unique and descriptive title and description tags for each page
3. get backlinks to you pages, if possible nearby your keywords
4. ...
Have a look at the Google webmastertools. Somewhere there are some helpful documents available.
And believe me, you don't want to appear on page 5. You should aim for page 1 or 2 for your important keywords.0 -

Ok, this might work for a single page well, but not with a site with a lot of pages. Best way is to to create a sitemap and submit it.0
