Boiler Service Special Offers?

Hi all,

It's almost that time of year again when the boiler needs its anual service. Last year we had Npower do it for just under £50 and the year before it was just under £30. This year it's £75 and they're the cheapest I can find. So just wondered if anyone knew if there were any special offers to be had this year?

And, although I appreciate the imput, I know someone's going to say use a local man. I would but the one my Mum used before I moved in with her was ripping her off to the tune of almost £300 per service and had been doing for the best part of five years! I don't trust local workmen where we live as they've pretty much all been in the rip-off-a-pensioner catagory. So I'd prefer we paid a corperate fat-cat!

Ta!

Fenris.

P.S Hope this is in the right section, wasn't sure where to ask.

  • Hi,

I've also started looking for the same.

I too used npower last year for £50, about 45 mins work. Seems crazy to pay more than £75, that's the best I've seen so far too.

    Will start googling!

I assume you are talking about a gas boiler?

I would have thought a local guy would be about £60-£70, not £300!

Any respectable local guy should be more than willing to provide a quote over the phone for servicing a boiler if you ask and tell him what type it is.

Prices around here are about £50 an hour plus parts plus vat.
(based on usual working hours - outside these times prices will be higher)
If the boiler is ok, then you shouln't need any parts and for most boilers the service (assuming no repairs) should be able to be completed within the hour ... but they should be able to advise that over the phone.

Prices will vary by area slightly and surprisingly London seems cheaper, rather than more expensive as I would have initially thought. It's all to down with how much local competition exists.

  • Usually the bigger companys i.e nPower and BG do summer sales which the prices are between £49 - £59 for a service. Mostly because the engineers are being paid the same during summer but with a much lesser workload.

For an oil fired boiler I take around the 1 1/2 to 2 hours to do a full service. Some guys manage to do it in 20 minutes, just time to hoover out behind the casing, maybe fit a nozzle, drink tea and write out the bill :rotfl:

Pricing is in the £65 to £75 area plus parts. All depends where you live in the UK.

i guess the LOCAL is coming round doind the service, saying this, that and the other is faulty, charging for it, and probably not even replacing any parts.....

this is way sometime agreements are better...
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

And you guess wrong! :D That was just his price for doing the service, nothing else, no extras, no repairs, no parts, just the service.
