Bottle warmer - found it just as quick to boil the kettle.

    Good thread!

Agree with bottle warmer - took about three hours to warm bottle up!! Used microwave with 2nd! Baby bath - used about twice!

Never bothered with monitors - unless you live in a mansion I am sure everyone can hear their baby! We live in a four bed detached and we certainly could/can!

Best buys are a good quality car seat and base - so much quicker and easier than strapping in each time.

baby bath and top and tail bowls are totally useless.

As for cot mobile almost poked my eye out on it in there dark the other night.

You can never have too many muslins my daughter has one everywhere knotted into the shape of a bunny head, my son had one tied round his head as a bandana as he'd left his hat in the car. They have a billion uses.

Bottle/food warmer. Dutifully tried to use it a couple of times but gave up. Kids are breastfed anyway and they were happy to have room temperature baby food jars. For the occasional bottle of expressed milk or the odd jar, it is easier to run it under hot water or ping it in the microwave for a few seconds. (Yes, I'm aware of hot spots - I always shook the bottle and never had it hotter than lukewarm.)

There were plenty of other useless baby equipment purchases but this was definitely the worst. :(
  • I actually had to go out and buy loads more bibs. I know people on here found them a waste, but my baby was really sickie when she was tiny. Those bibs kept us from changing her clothes every 2 minutes. She wore them all day if she was awake, took them off when she was sleeping so she didn't push it over her face.
I also love my moses basket. She's 6 months and still in it. I have tried a few times to move her to the cot but she's just not ready. And she still fits so, hey ho.

Fancy Clothes - I think she was in vests and pajamas for the first 3 months except for Christmas day and when she had some photos done.

Sling Carrier - £45! Never used it, and then returned it when they were all recalled in the USA.

Baby Coats - She was so tiny when she was born, and never found any in tiny baby size. Nightmare to put on. Even thought it was a very cold winter, I never used them. She would just get swaddled in lots of blankets, then a heavy blanket on top. Only her little eyes and nose poking out, so cute!

Cot Bumpers - I never bought them as they're dangerous.

Best buy - for me was the Microwave steriliser, as it also doubled up as cold water steriliser, if it was microwaved, was sterile for 60mins, so admitaddlty time factor, but 10/10.

Best thing - Fold up changing mat - most poundshops sell them, best thing in the world, as we kept one downstairs, one in changing bag

Worst thing - fold up potty, she screamed, wouldn't use it, so it went on ebay, and carted the main one around under the pram etc...
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Bottle warmer, door bouncer, moses basket, cot mobile, baby bath and top and tail bowl....It looks like babies need so much but in reality you end up using so little.

The only thing I had that I never used was a sling. I tried my daughter in it once and I thought she was suffocating so never used it again. I also got a set of mothercare bottles that were practically useless, the teat kept falling in the milk so I replaced them as soon as I could afford a decent set.

I second the baby bath, top and tail bowl and nappy wrapper bin as the worst baby buys ever. Glad they were only cheapies. Another worst was the bottle warmer for in the car - what was I thinking - if it had actually worked it would have been fantastic but it wouldn't keep your hands warm on a cold day rubbish.

Best things were the bath support, baby swing, door bouncer, baby carrier- I loved this as DD would not lie flat on her back.

Top and tail bowl only got used for a few days.
Sling that neither of us could figure out how to put it on.
Fiddly clothes, like babygros that button up at the back and dungarees with lots of buttons for newborns didn't get used much. But with 2 babies who were sick a lot we could never have had too many vests and babygros.

Tummytub was great for first baby, second baby mostly just got put in the bath with her big sister.
