Disputing a debt please help

Hi all, I have posted this in the debt free forum with no luck then I found this forum in which my query probably fits better.

I'll try and stick to the bare bones but my whole situation is very complex but this query is just about a very tiny fraction of it but if i can get it sorted asap then it is one less thing to worry about.
I left my husband for various reasons and the whole thing is very acrimonious but he did say he would help out financially with my motor insurance { I shouldn't have fallen for it, hindsight is wonderful} I obtained a quote {which was very expensive as the car was being imported from Spain} anyway all I obtained was the quote and then gave the details to husband and asked him if he could get me a temp cover note. Anyway he went ahead and set up a policy and paid the deposit. It has since been cancelled {but not by me as I never set it up!} I have received a credit agreement which I have not signed but they are now chasing me for for two hundred and sixteen pounds! To quote from the letter,
" After taking into account any refund of premium from your insurance company and any balance owing on the finance agreement there is a final balance of 216.00 to pay"
Can anyone help {I have been advised to file for BR by the CCCS- which I have been forced into by ex OH - which I will so I know I can take this with me but I would rather sort it now}

Thanks for listening xx

    In all likelihood if you haven't signed the agreement they'll have difficulty pursuing you.

    But if your looking at bankruptcy, the easiest thing would be to write to them advising them of the same and include it in that.

    Hope that helps :)

    I presume that CCCS will have a fuller picture of your circumstances and will not have recommended Bankruptcy for just the £216 debt. You may therefore be wise to take their advice.

    If however you do not wish to file for bankruptcy for whatever reason and did not enter into the contract in any way - eg either verbally or in writing - then I'd ask them to provide proof of the contract. It may be that if it was hubby who set it up, presumably paid some form of deposit, cancelled etc then it's hubby they have to chase if they want to chase anyone.
