Im just about to start college next week and i need to open a bank account for my EMA, everywhere i look says i need to be 18 to open an account.
All the student accounts ive looked at say you must be 18 to open the account, i suppose its because with me being 17 they still see me as a child.
does anyone know of what type of account i can open, and if so what banks will offer it to me?
Please Help
Thanks..

Student accounts aren't designed for 16/17yr old college students.
You'll need to look at the banks accounts for young people, HSBC as an example have their Right Track account, Natwest and Halifax certainly have an offering as will most of the other high street banks.0 -
My offspring always found the NatWest CardPlus account good - you get a Solo card which enables you to pay for things in shops, and withdraw cash, and you can also use it online (but not all the time).
But think about where you're going to be able to withdraw cash from (without being charged for it, of course!) Which banks can you get to, or is a PO your best bet? If it's a PO, then check that whichever account you use lets you withdraw cash at the PO - the grownup NatWest account doesn't!
Good luck!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

No no no! Student accounts are for university students. :-) Thats why all the banks offer pressies if you sign up for one.
You'll need a right track account, you can get one with HSBC...I've had one since I was 16, all you need to do is deposit £1. Plus its perfect for EMA, you can check your balance on the internet and things like that. They will give you a solo card/eventually a maestro which is accepted in most places, so HSBC is a good bank to go with.0
