Hi

Recently the parking sensors in my wifes mazda (5) started to sound "weaker", and have now just stopped working

Does anyone know if they're powered from a separate battery or what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Mark

I don't know about you, but im thankful that parking sensors are becoming more common.... :rotfl:

OP sounds like a poor connection or the "speaker" part is knackered.
If they were fitted as an "extra" after manufacture then it won't be too hard to sort out.

    they're manufacturer fit.

I might go with option 1...

No Mazda 5 comes with reversing sensors as standard. These items are dealer fitted, not manufacturer fitted. If you had them fitted at the time of purchase then you should still be covered under the 3 year warranty if this still applies. If not any car audio type place that also installs reversing sensors will be able trace and fix the fault.

On my 8 year old Zafira I had the same problem as the reversing system stopped working and it was traced to a broken wire on one of the sensors which was easily fixed.

For those who belittle reversing sensors, the Mazda 5 is one of the hardest vehicles to reverse park in. It has an unusual tailgate shape and a curved bumper that protrudes.

I have a Mazda2 and a Mazda6 and they are also difficult to judge when reversing for the same reason.

    Doesn't mean I need sensors, though.:p

Try an L200 - then tell me it's hard to reverse a normal car (no I don't have sensors, I have some small driving skill ;) )

But this isn't helping the OP. If the car is out of warranty, I'd see if any of your friends can recommend an auto-electrician who can diagnose and fix the fault for you (if you have a garage you can trust, they will have someone they trust in turn).

Mine failed last month (although on a Hyundai Coupe), I followed the wires to a small control box that was hidden in the void just behind the rear tail light cluster. It was about the size of a pack of cards, it had the 4 sensor leads, a speaker wire and the power wire all going into it. A couple of the wires had got a bit of corrosion on the pins in the plugs, caused by a poorly fitted electric aerial allowing a tiny bit of water in.
Removed the plugs, gave the pins a once over with a bit of fine sand paper and they are working again.

    thanks.

I must admit I assumed they came with the car, as it was nearly new when we bought it. it's out of warranty, so i'll have a look myself (when it stops raining), otherwise I'll have to weigh up having to pay for repairs, or just leaving it as it is.
