Winking monitor ;0)

I wonder if any of you guys can help me...For the past few months, everytime I click on anything on a web page or use the back or forward button, the screen , for a split second, goes temporarily black...as though it`s "winking"...This can be a single wink or two or three in succession...For the past few days when this happens, the monitor is now turning itself off, and the only way to get out of it is to do a forced shutdown...Is the monitor on it`s last legs, or is there a setting somewhere I can have a fiddle with...

Do you know if the graphics card is built in to the motherboard or if its in addition to it?
You can tell by looking where the vga plug goes (monitor connection). Its usually coloured blue with holes for 15 pins or if its a difital monitor it would be white with more holes
Is it together with all the USB 's, keyboard and mouse sockets or is it in another position on the back?
