    Thanks you both been very helpful could you also tell me if I am now giving up carers and am going self employed trying to do run my telemarketing business from home, what help i am entitled to, i dont have any savings, am i allowed to claim income support? Do i have to work under or more than 16 hours per week to qualify, obv i want to work as much as possible to get the business started etc etc.

    just need something to fall back on, to eat etc etc

    No income support as has already been said you dont qualify for. Its for lone parents and sick or disabled or for someone who is caring for a sick or disabled person
    There is working tax credits but you must be working 30hours plus per week. You wont be entitled to anything else other than that and LHA and CTB

    Cheers karen, So if I was working 30 hours at NMW would i still actually be entitled to LHA???

    Depends on the level of rent. In some areas, you may qualify for some assistance, in others, not. The LHA team at your local authority would be able to give you a better idea.

    You will get a carers allowance run on after the date you give up your claim, if your mother lost SDA while you cared for her she would get it back as long as she fulfiled the rest of the criteria and she should let IS know if thats the case.

    Its 4 weeks run on for carers I think.
