Missing operating system

Had a hard disk crash on a 1000 MHz celeron
Replaced the hard drive.
windows ME reinstalled no problem.

Getting a "missing operating system" every so often.

Replaced bios battery
Replaced IDE cable.
Reset Bios
moved hard drive from IDE0 to IDE1 (temporarily) on mboard
hard drive set as master.
boot to hard drive only.

why would the bios be losing the hard drive reasonably frequently?

missing O/S means the MBR(master boot record) on the hard drive cant find the correct path, usually fixed on XP with a recovery disk and repairing the boot record. not normally anything to do with the bios.

might be worth checking the state of your harddrive in case its almost on its last legs...
