    Xmas Saver!
if you want any of the photos printed, from the disc, may be worth going through a cash back site and use their "free photos", some print 20, others print 50, you just pay postage, if you and hunny were to both set up cashback accounts, then there would be no reason why you can't both use the free offers.
    def help.
Worth signing up for email offers, as the companies will send out special offers and discounts, I had a lovely a3 size picture, the background was travel, and it had 6 photos on it, just paid £2 for the postage, had that done as it was the 1st time my dd had been abroad, and I did a 2nd one for my friends 1st wedding anniversary.

Glad you got sorted out in the end, but go through the small print, incase he tries to use your photos for promotion and if you haven't agreed.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I cant believe someone would do this to you. A lot of service providers will rely on word of mouth-you are hardly going to recommend his work after this experience, but I am glad you got it sorted.

Glad it is sorted, if you have any more problems just remind him, he is doing it as a hobby, and you are sure HMRC would be more than interested in his money making hobby!!! and report him if need be! I hate rip offs

Oh god Manda i feel for you, not had chance to read the replies and dont have the advice for you i wish, but just a...erm, idea when you fight this(i think you should) we have our photographer through my sis, shes bessi mates with her and is doing our whole wedding for just 100quid inc. CD. She is an am, breaking into the world of photography but maybe we were lucky? I think the inital price he charged was rediculous not to mention extras......sorry i cant help but just thinking prices for comparasion
Hi Zoe, we have got it sorted now, £200 for the CD. We did think the initial charge was ok, £380, but we were comparing to someone charging £600 inc CD. So now its cost us £580 for an unprofessional photographer. I have a feeling he seems to think he can just rake all the money he has put into his equipment in his first year, which isnt really going to do him any favours, as others have said, we definitly wont recommend him now and if he carries on with his overcharging he isnt going to get far. We're just going to try and put it down to our stupidity and his greediness, and move on!
I just hope others on here, searching for info on photographers can see this and it will hopefully help them sort things before their wedding.
  • Manda - make sure you get a letter from the photographer granting permission to print from the CD. I forgot to do this for one of my portrait customers and Boots refused to hand over the prints as they could not prove they have permission.

It all works out good in the end.
If it's not good, it's not the end!

Nice to see it worked out, at least i know how much our guy wants upfront
  • Hi,

Just found this thread & thought I'd clarify.

Copyright belongs to the photographer unless they sign it away - the B&G don't automatically get copyright. It's rare photographers sign away copyright - they usually provide a license for the B&G to print the photos. Otherwise if they wanted to use the photos for promotional purposes they'd have to get a license from the B&G which would be silly.

It's not unusual for the dvd slideshows to not contain the pictures to copy - Wedding togs also make money from reprints and enlargements. I don't do weddings, but once I start doing more portraits, any CD/DVD will have watermarked images. The DVD slideshow is also used for 'proofing' - so the B&G can see the pictures and select the ones they want printing.

I'd not say he was overcharging - wrong not to disclose all costs upfront, but 100 6x4s plus a DVD slideshow sounds about right... You have to remember you're paying for:

    a) the tog's time shooting
    b) the tog's ability and talent
    c) the time spent reviewing the images
    d) the time spend editting the images

You're looking at about 2-3 days work. Plus printing costs, DVD cost, insurance, postage, etc...

Wow, i'm paying £600 for the photograhper (who is lovely), including a book of prints plus the cd with all pics & copyright, and didn't realise how reasonable that was until I read this!
