Elderly/Ill Husband's Huge Debt

Thanks again Johala Reewi. I should have said that I do control all the finances. Despite what i've said previously my husband doesn't spend MY money, its very much ours. Having given him ample opportunity to sort out the credit card situation himself, little ever gets done. I'm afraid he's one of those who buries his head and hopes it will go away. I'm very much a realist. Having nagged for, probably, too long I have now taken it upon myself to deal with it. With help from Martin Lewis' brilliant site I only have a 0% credit card - I have been a card tart for about 2 years +. Unfortunately due to my husband's age he can't get his hands on any of the 0% cards around. I'm applying for the Life of Balance Transfers on his behalf to see if we can reduce the interest that way. In the meantime We've written to the Halifax (the largest creditor) at £9375 asking them to look at the interest situation. ie. will they stop adding it as its only exacerbating a very difficult situation. I tried to explain to them that they're better off receving £100 per month, which we've offered rather than nothing - if He went bankrupt he has no assets. They may suggest an IVA of course. It doesn't help of course when you have £105.71 last month in interest alone. Told them the TRUE story of my husband having to give up work as he's awaiting a Triple By-pass. In the meantime awaiting an information pack from the National Debt Helpline, so will have to see what they and the Halifax have to say. Many thanks for your continued advice.Val0
