Keeping bees and wasps out?

My daughter is terrifed of bugs, bees and wasps. I have tried explaining that we live in the country and they are all part of it but to no avail.

The trouble I have is, we leave the back door open when its sunny (we have all windows in the kitchen and it gets very hot, and the bees/wasps come in and then can't seem to find there way out. We have top windows but they seem to take ages to work out how to get there or just to fly back out the door.

Please help

  • I have the same problem. My son won't even go out in the garden because he is scared of insects. He knows they are good for the garden, but he can't help it. God forbid if a fly/wasp gets into the house the whole neighbourhood will hear about it. Maybe one day... :o
I guess the only solution would be those mosquito blinds that you find in Mediterranean countries, but they are quite pricey.

    you need this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fly-Screen-Insect-Screen-Budget-door-/370297442661?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5637729165

can get it for windows too.
Window ones I've seen in wilkinsons and the 99p store but not the door curtains.

My son had to put them into his place as GF is highly allergic to wasp stings and he has lots of plants around the windows and doors.

I think you need to resolve the issue really, not work around it, which could reinforce it.

Fears are usually learnt behaviours. Does anyone they know have similar issues?

Iwork round my daughters issue with this as much as I can. she has been petrified since late April and is starting to come round now. slowly she is testing herself out with different situations and doing more and more. I haven't needed to cajole or persuade her. I haven't bought into what she feels and reinforced it by saying I am scared too and that they are scary but neither have I belittled her fear. she asked me to hold her hand while she walked towards the bees on some flowers in our garden the other day and we walked to within 30 cms of them and chuckled at their pollen wiggling dances. it was her idea not mine though.
Don't know your childs age but young children go through different fears as they gain new awarenesses about things. they usually then move on through it. kindness and compassion help them to feel secure enough to move on.
    hope things start improving soon.

Fearsat a young age are not necessarily a learnt behaviour but can just be new knowledge and awareness of the world which they then assimilate and move through. they have a lot to learn about the world and some of it can be unnerving when it first pops on the radar.
