Office/McAfee Crashing Word Emails... and then it won't let me repair!

I have a problem that has been increasing over the last couple of days. When I open emails and start editing them (either by opening a new one, or 'replying to'), Word crashes... it then recovers, but often crashes again. These emails aren't long, they're HTML format, but mostly just text. There are no attachments...

I tried changing various settings without success. I tried repairing from the CD-Rom and it wouldn't let me. It tried reinstalling from the CD-Rom and it wouldn't let me either.

Has anyone got any suggestions? It really is very frustrating! And, please, please, please don't suggest an alternative program. Just help...

Thanks

Does it matter if you don't use word to edit email you can switch it off.

try deleting normal.dot or reinstalling printer drivers as a first stage of diagnosis.

What happens when you try to reinstall?

Personally I would stop using Word as your email a editor I cant quite understand why that is a feature of Word but microsoft knows best.

Were gonna need a little more information if you want any other help, version of virusscan is it part of internet security suite? version of word your using.

Deleting the normal.dot template also solves lots of word probems

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the help... but if I don't use Word to amend the emails, then what does Outlook use?

Also, I have switched off McAfee Virusscan and Spamkiller and this has not made a difference (so they're back on again). If I delete Normal.dot, then won't I have problems in Word?

Normal.dot will be recreated the next time you open word so dont worry about that.

Outlook is an email client so strangely enough it has an email creator built in to it. the word link is only used for aditional html abilities.
