Cambridge graduate can't get a job.

Sorry?
Did the 'take some lead tablets to make himself thicker' not ring a bell with you?
To say a 2:1 is a decent grade is also very wrong. It is really very average.
The OP clearly thinks that being a Cambridge Graduate is a miracle worker and in reality they are finding out things to be very different.
What they haven't said is what they studied. This would have a bearing. Also, let's not forget, most people go to Oxbridge because they are from a priviledged background, and not because they are academically gifted, and this may well be the case with the OP.
Lots of money and intelligence rarely go hand in hand.
Look at the Royal Family.......all as thick as they come.
Ok, but he may have been venting with the 'lead tablets' comment. TBH, the OP may be struggling because people share the same sort of prejudices as you have highlighted above.0 -
You are facing inverse snobbery. I'm in a similar situation. It's almost as if people resent you for daring to work hard at school and get a degree.
It's a typically British problem where we actively berate our young people for attempting to better themselves.
I have no real advice but I do share your pain!
Ignore those who say that you have some kind of superiority complex, you did not come across as at all superior to me.Leftie and proud :beer:0 -

What complete nonsense!
It's probably harder to get a good degree in a poorer uni when you have awful halls, poor facilities, and have to take a job to support your studies because Mummy and Daddy aren't available 24/7 with an open cheque book.
Is this from personal experience, seems like you have an axe to grind ^ not all oxbridge students are "posh snobs"0 -

That's a very prejudiced and ignorant view. Have you ever been accused of inverse snobbery before? If not, you've been very lucky!
I went to a bloody good uni and I worked in a chippy to support myself and lived out of netto. However, I'm sure that you would write me off as a stuck-up cow who no doubt had rich parents and has never worked a day in her life, purely on the basis of my degree certificate.
Grow up or shut up, thank you.Leftie and proud :beer:0 -

I also think people on here are being a little harsh :S
That is so untrue and a snobby way to look at things to be honest a degree is a degree they have a standard they set through out the country, they are not 'harder' degrees in certain universities at all.!"£$%^&*()0 -

That is not true am afraid.
A course which requires straight A grades for entry is going to be harder than one that you can get into one without ever even getting a C.
Yes, we should have a real, standardised system for grading degrees, but we do not. It does need to be overhauled I'll give you that, however pretending that all degrees are equal is a fallacy.Leftie and proud :beer:0 -

Thanks, that's an interesting thought.0 -

Different universities have different measures of stringency, I know in my university several of my friends could delay their exams due to abusing the extenuating circumstances appeal. You could keep retaking exams or papers. Some universities do not allow this and only allow one retake with a cap of 40% maximum, but from what my friend tells me they have now got rid of this.
Exam papers are open to variation, this is the biggest issue in my mind, as I can go into an exam knowing that I only need to learn 30% of the course and I know I will know enough to pass. Its all dependent on these issues0 -

Or maybe the OP just isn't employable for a completely different reason?
Pretty sure employers don't just look at the degree.0
