Design website using html

Options
Hi all,

As part of my course i have to design a website about myself and my research interests, cv etc. It's a small part of a relatively small module so not too bothered by it.

Anyway i have just went and made a website on freewebs.com which looks okay but is fairly restrictive (Ads appear on it, i can't seem to reduce paragraph indentation so there is always a gap when i hit return). Also can't seem to hyperlink text only insert HTML.

Anyways looking at people who have done it in the past their websites look more plain than the one i have done and they look as though they have done them entirely themselves using HTML. I have a decent grasp of HTML (enough to make a basic page) but i don't know how i actually go about using that HTML :embarasse

Where can i actually use it? Or does anyone know a more flexible site/program to create a website, something which is part HTML, part GUI based would be ideal!

Any help appreciated thanks

check if your ISP includes a bit of free web space, it's not so common now but used to be ubiquitous to get a little. This is usually simple, you just get the space and a sub-domain so you can upload a basic .html file or whatever you like.

Also, check what's actually required - does the website actually have to be online? You make be able to just make the files and run it from a computer.
