If you re-invest, you can cash in at any time and still get the interest+RPI (unlike initial investments which you have to keep for a year) - looks like one of them 'no-brainers' at the moment.

And yes, I've also noticed the 2-year term in the calculator-thingy - probably on sale a couple of years ago... (lol) - I'm sure they had a few 3/5 year issue with 'no thanks' rates spring/summer 2008.

I'm sure lemonjelly is right. The NS&I calculator page gives 2, 3 and 5 year options. I can't find a comprehensive list of previous issues, but it looks like Issue 16 and/or Issue 17 were 2 year terms, which is why the 2 year renewal option has been offered.

Those appear to be 3 years but I noticed there were 2 year ones back in 2003, maybe up to 2005, maybe he has renewed these every two years since.

How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

These are the reasons for all the :o in the original post.

I honestly can't recall when I opened it. Recieving the letter was the reminder that I held it. All I know is the value of the savings cert, & the fact that it was in a 2 year, & I've been offered the option of a further 2 year option.

Bit wrong really, to not know you've over 3k sitting somewhere...:o
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I suggest you stick with it as you cash it in at any time without penalty (I assume).
