I've asked to cancel sky TV,BB and phone but ......

they have not cancelled my broadband. The've sent a letter saying as talk is cancelled, my £5 discount is no longer applicable so I will be charged £5 for base broadband per month (obviously without there landline) Also I think my TV has been cancelled but unsure as the freeview channels work through the sky + box but not the old package channels as expected. Interestingly, I seem to have more channels through this set up than through my aerial freeview set up. Is this "Freesat"?

This is all in a flat that I stay for a few days a week in, so having broadband for £5 per month would be good without the need for landline or T.V. Does anyone know if this is ok as I always thought you had to pay line rental to get broadband. Oddly, my phone does have a dial tone but you can't dial out.

I've been hanging on their 08442411010 number for 30 minutes to check this to say I'd be ok with continuing broadband for £5 although I requested all services be stopped over 6 weeks ago. I don't really want to find a costly sky surprise in a few weeks regarding the line rental. So I thought I'd ask on here if anyone had a similar situation or knows anything about this.

Thanks for your thoughts / experiences / advice in advance

  • You do have to pay line rental, yes. No line, no broadband. However, it's perfectly possible that while the voice side of the line has been switched off, the broadband hasn't - yet. They're separate services. You may well find that the broadband vanishes shortly. Still having a dial tone after ending your calls package is normal as is not being able to dial out which suggests that the calls have indeed been cancelled, though I can well understand why you'd want to verify that.

Freesat does have more channels than Freeview, so yes it is correct that you are getting more channels than through an aerial.

It sounds like maybe they have cancelled your calls package but not your line rental and broadband. This might just be one step in the process of cancelling the whole thing. Probably all you can do is wait on the line and ask them.

That's normally the case Mark,as when I was at Sky BBand, two cease orders were generated. One for the phone & the other for the broadband.

Our Sky services finished on Friday and I too found that I could still view the freeview channels. I couldn't watch anything from the planner, even stuff that had been recorded from freeview channels. I didn't try recording anything.

However, I remembered reading somewhere that Sky will allow you to watch the freeview channels through their Sky box but that they charge you £5 a month for the privilage. I don't know how true this is, but I unplugged the box and havn't used it since, just in case.

No they dont.As soon as your channels are switched off you dont pay for them.I think you're getting confused with the £10 a month fee that you'd pay if you wanted to keep the record/play/pause functions active.
