Can anyone please tell me what kind of discounts the student card from the OU entitles you to? I'm hoping to start a postgrad course with the OU this year.
Thanks
Thanks

You wont get a student card from the OU exactly, you can apply for a standard NUS card, so you'll get all the discounts offered to NUS card holders. (I'll see if I can find the links and edit in a bit - found 2 am sure theres a third more helpful one but its eluding me at the moment).

This is a good summary page http://www.open.ac.uk/ousa/nus_extra.php
There is a free OU card available if you don't want to pay the NUS fee but, as I don't have one, I can't really comment on what you can use it for. There's information about the OUSA and NUS cards on the link above.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

I definately recommend the NUS Extra card as this is also a International Student Identity Card, with which you can get a 16 to 25 Railcard no matter what your age :j
If you live in London this can then be linked to your Oyster. So double :j:jMake £5 a day in July - £105.33/£155
Total debt July '09: £7,500
Proud to be dealing with my debts but not proud that they are still the same a year on.0 -

Hi fellow OU students! (I'm new to this board and quite new to the site in general..)
Do you (or anyone else) have any further info on the 16-25 railcard as regards OU eligibility?
The reason I ask is that I was interested in this also (anything that saves money!!) but the detailed in the website and paperwork suggested for the mature student route (26/over and in education) excludes OU or distance learning.
I emailed about this to clarify (and get it in writing if I am eligible - I'm a bit of a worrier about 'fraud' etc!) and the gist of the response from ATOC (railcard people) was that 'currently' (I received the mail in March) anyone with an ISIC can get one, but they are aware ISIC are now more widely available so "we are currently reviewing our policy on acceptance of these cards".
so far I can't find anything further than this and nothing significant seems to have changed on the website so this may still be the case, but I inferred that this may change (of course given the nature of bureaucracy this could take a while)
THe NUS card does give some good discounts on other stuff though - think I've got a lot more than the £10 back in discount already0
