N.R 1 yr Fixed at 3%

Thats 2.4% after tax. Postal only with monthly or annual interest options. Be aware also that Mervyn King last night signalled that interest rates will rise, economist predict a rise to 3/4% by early 2011 and then up to 1% by the summer of 2011 ending the year at 2%.

I personally don't see why anyone would fix for a year at the moment. You can get instant access for 2.8% and the highest 1 year rate I have seen is 3.25%.

2 years though, and the rate can be a little better, although not great.

Better news for savers if above goes ahead, although just because BOE base rate goes up to 2%, doesn't necessarily mean this will be passed on to savings accounts.

I hope it does though, oh how I long for the days again of 5% instant access accounts.....
  • If your fixing for 1 yr i dont see anything wrong with this as rates wont be rising that much over the next 12 months and i wouldnt fixed more than a year. ICICI also have a 1yr bond paying 3%.

Just to note that this account can in fact be opened in Branch as well as by post. I am emailing Moneyfacts to inform them of the error on their site.

Barnsley BS also have a 1 year Bond at 3%. Should you need or want the monthly interest option that both these have, the Barnsley is faourable at 2.37% as against 2.16% for NR.
