Want to change our prepaid electric metre so we can take advantage of E.ON saving

Hello,

we're currently with Atlantic Gas an Electric and our bill is anything but stable. We've shopped around and the best deal for us is on E.ON on a direct debt basis, which works out well for my accounting.

Problem is the deal doesn't apply to premade electrical metres. Can I get the metre changed by E.ON if I move to them or do I have to have the right metre in place before moving (meaning I would have to ask Alantic to change it).

We'd like to move to E.ON FixOnline 8.

Thank you

    Hi LaDiva

I'm afraid we have fairly strict guidelines regarding replacing Prepayment with Credit meters.

You will need to be our customer for at least 12 months before we will look at your request. We will also carry out a credit check.

Agreeing to change the meter will depend on the results of the credit check.

There is a charge of £50 for each meter changed as it will be classed as a non-essential replacement.

However, these are guidelines only and there may be other things to take into consideration.

For instance, we will consider such requests favourably where there is vulnerability at the property; or where customers have been with us previously, provided their credit history was good.

Each case is considered individually. Therefore, I would check with our Prepayment people before switching your supply to us.

Sorry I can't offer more positive info LaDiva but I hope this at least helps you with your decision.

    Thank you Malc for that.

We're going to stick with Atlantic, and pay for a change of metre. We'll shop around for a gas only swop.

As for credit checks-I understand why they would be needed however just to clarify the metre has been in the property for over 20 years-way before I moved in so hasn't been fitted for us purposely.

The good news is that I believe Atlantic won't charge you to change to a credit meter (but you still need to pass their elegibility requirements which may include a returnable security deposit)

Nothing to stop you switching supplier after you have had the meter changed ;)

  • La Diva, look I am with Eon on there fix on line 8. It is the best deal by far if you want to manage your account on line and pay by DD.
It may be worth paying the £50 and moving, the tariff will be so much lower you will probably pay back in a few months.
    good luck
