Child Disability.

My 2-year old has Doose syndrome, a type of epilepsy.

I've realised that epilepsy counts as a child disability, which considering his regular seizures and me not feeling able to go back to work because of it has been something I've found out too late.

Do I notify tax credits? And what are we entitled too?

Only if your son gets Disability Living allowance my son gets dla high rate care and mobility we get child disability premium and severe premium because he gets the high rate

You could apply for DLA, whether you get it depends on his care needs compared to another child his age without his problem, not on diagnosis. You can download the forms if you want to see what the questions are like. Generally you would be advised to get help from a benefits advisor eg at CAB as the questions are quite tricky and focus on the negative rather than the positive. You need to be able to demonstate that he needs a lot of extra care, day or night or both and the rate given is decided by that.

Thank-you. I am going through the process of DLA, in should start payment soon. And will inform tax credits.

His epilepsy has been really hard, he has daily seizures regularly, falls over all the time. We have really struggled with me not going back to work...

If he is awarded mid or higher care, you can claim carers allowance.

When you do the form, the help he needs has to be from another person and more than what the average 2 year old needs.
