Paint for textured ceiling

We have a very textured ceiling which needs painting. I can tell already that normal paint will splash everywhere. We've considered buying the Polycell stuff - I think it's called "smoothover" but it's quite pricey and I don't know anyone who's used it. So if anyone has any opinions or ideas, please share them!

clear the room and put dust sheets down on the floor. (you need to that with any painting).
then use any emulsion.Get some gorm.0 -
If it's heavily textured you might need to use an emulsion brush. If your splashing paint everywhere then your overloading your brush/roller/pad. Smoothover or whatever it's called is just a plaster ..you'd still need to paint it i believe..if your thinking of that then you may as well get a plasterer in to skim it (my plasterers charge about 200 per ceiling ..whatever size) for a better job.0

its the ceiling in the hall and it's like the top of a frosted cake with loads and loads of tiny little peaks if that makes sense? when you put your hand flat on it it feels like lots of spikes poking into you. Hopefully that helps. We may just have to go with a thick emulsion2013 wins: March - book,0
