London weekend - Travelcard or Oyster card

Going to London for the weekend. Prob use the tube a fair bit on Saturday but just one single journey on Sunday.
I see its £5.60 for a one day travelcard, and then £4.00 for a cash single.
What if I got an oyster card? Doesnt this max at £5.60 a day anyway (so the most I could use on Sat would be £5.60 same as travelcard)? Then single fare on Sun would be £1.80 instead?
Total (assuming I use it at least 3-4 times on Sat) would be £7.40? (As opposed to £9.60 for one day travelcard and single).
Can I get an oyster card on the spot at Paddington tube station?
Although, one bummer - isnt there a £3 charge for a new card?

You can get a card at Paddington. They are free - the £3 is a refundable deposit.0
;33873339]Refundable deposit. How does that work? Do you mean its £3 for the card which you get back if you ever decide to cancel it?
Yep you get it back plus whatever money's left on it0 -
Oyster has a capping feature which ensures if you are using Oyster card, you will never pay more than equivalent travel card fare!Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0
