Simple UK account for ex-pat

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who doesn't have internet access.

His brother-in-law has lived in the US for 25 years and is now coming up to retirement. He has three small UK pensions that will be payable, about £400pcm in total.

While the pension providers can pay to a US account, the conversion charges for each payment every month are apparently disproportionately high. It would be easier if they could pay to a UK account in his name, and every few months he could just do one transfer to the US and pay one lot of charges.

How does he go about getting a UK-based aco!!!! for this purpose? There are some speciality onshore aco!!!!s for ex-pats, but the monthly charges on these are quite high. Are there any alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

He could try to get a Barclays Cash Card account.

The debit card issued will give cut price access to any Bank of America Cash machine.

  • Thanks guys. The issue is his ID. He hasn't lived here for a long time, and so is finding it difficult as banks won't touch him. Are there any that take a more flexible approach?
