Hi all
I need some advice about our t. We bought it in November 2008 so is only 18 months old and the picture is now over bright and there are white lines through the screen. Thought it was just sky so tried a dvd and it is the same.
1. does anyone know do I have any rights re returning the tv to sainsbury's (they say 12 months) or do I have to go to toshiba
2. If it is toshiba can anyone give me directions to their helpline number
3. Is there a techy out ther who knows why this is happening and how i can fix it

SOGA states that goods should work for up to 6 years. However, cost is taken into consideration. You couldn't expect a £9.99 toaster purchased from Tesco to still be going strong in half a decade.
What size TV is it and how much did you pay? If it's cheap and crap I doubt you'll get far, but if it's half-decent it may be worth pursuing via Sainsbury's (your warranty is with them). You can try and speak to Toshiba they may help you out but aren't obliged to. From my experience (reading on these boards) the retailer will probably give a part refund taking into account the age of the TV. But you'll have to kick some customer service reps in the head to achieve this.

The irony being, sods law dictates that the cheap crap usually outlasts the expensive crap!
At least i have found this to be the case with quite a few items i have purchased
@ OP - i know this may seem like a utterly ridiculous question but have you tried resetting the tv to its factory settings, switching it off at plug, making sure connections are secure and clean/dust free?
I do apologise if you have tried this, but figured it was worth suggesting on a "just in case" basis

In law, beyond 6 months (or quoted warranty period - so definitely worth double checking) the onus to show an inherent fault is on you, rather than the retailer. Thus, you'd need to obtain a professional report (cost approx £100); although if it backs your case then the retailer should refund this cost to you.
Thus, unless you are willing to do this (and make that gamble) it's over to the good will of the retailer.
There are indeed reasons why extended warranties exist beyond just retailer commission!0 -
Thanks for the advice guys
believe it or not my OH has been switching it off standby at night but last night forgot to switch it off at the wall and was on standby all night and there was no problem today !!!!!
The telly is a 32" and was in the sale and cost £329 we phoned sainsbury's but we can't find the reciept they have said we need proof of purchase (of course) were a bit shirty with us and OH said not a prob we'll contact sainsbury's bank and get a copy of the credit card bill. CS then said ''OH you bought it with your sainsbury's card well if you have your bill thats not a prob'' a very quick turn around. The bank are sending us a copy and we'll take it back then.:happyhear YUMMY MUMMY TO HENRY BEAR AGED 10:happyhearslimming world need to get back to target 25lb to goDisney World here we come May 2018:j0 -

You do usually need proof of purchase BUT this doesnt have to be a till receipt, so a bank statement can suffice
Glad to hear you're getting it sorted though, keep us updated and let us know if theres anything we can help with
